Unemployment rate at 6-year low: PM Modi

NEW DELHI: Stating that the expanding economy is creating new possibilities for the youth, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday that the unemployment rate is at its lowest level in the last six years and is decreasing rapidly in both the rural and urban areas. Modi emphasised that the benefits of development are being reaped in equal measures in both villages and cities, and new opportunities are increasing.

He was addressing the awardees at the Kaushal Deekshant Samaroh of the ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship via video message. Candidates who completed training under the schemes of Skill India were felicitated by Union education & skill development minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Noting new opportunities are emerging due to the expanding economy, Modi pointed out the unprecedented increase in the participation of women in India’s workforce and credited the impact of schemes and campaigns that have been launched in India in past years regarding women empowerment. The Prime Minister also asserted his government’s commitment towards skill development, an area which was neglected by previous government.

The Prime Minister also underlined that India is investing in the skills of its youth more than ever before which has strengthened them at the ground level and made India the biggest centre of skilled manpower in the world in order to provide smart and skilled manpower solutions.
